Architectural coatings classification principles

On what basis are architectural coatings classified? Is there a unified classification method?

In our country, there is no unified classification method for the classification of architectural coatings, but the following methods are often used for classification.

(1) According to the type of base material, architectural coatings can be divided into organic coatings, inorganic coatings and organic-inorganic composite coatings. Organic coatings can be divided into solvent-based, water-emulsion and water-soluble organic coatings according to the different solvents used.

Inorganic architectural coatings are mainly inorganic polymer coatings, including traditional cement, lime, etc., but the latter are rarely used.

Organic-inorganic composite coatings have two composite methods. One is that organic materials and inorganic materials are physically mixed, and the two are combined to make a coating; the other is that organic materials and inorganic materials are grafted or inlaid through chemical reactions, and the two are combined to make a coating. coating.

(2) According to the coating film thickness (related instrument: coating Thickness Gauge) and texture (shape), it can be divided into flat and smooth surface coatings; sand wall-like coatings with sand-like decorative effects on the surface; three-dimensional decoration with concave-convex patterns Multi-layer coatings with different effects (including mountain-shaped, spotted, orange-peel, brushed, etc.). (3) According to the classification of the parts used on the building, it can be divided into interior wall coatings, exterior wall coatings, floor coatings, and shed coatings.

(4) According to the function of use, it can be divided into decorative coatings and special functional coatings (such as fireproof coatings, anti-mold coatings, waterproof coatings, elastic coatings, etc.).

In the above classification methods, the two types (1) and (3) are often combined to name architectural coatings, such as synthetic resin emulsion interior (exterior) wall coatings, solvent-based exterior wall coatings, water-soluble interior wall coatings, etc. .
