Car painting seasoning tools and instruments---Tu-4 Viscometer

1. Seasoning tool

The seasoning tools commonly used in automobile painting mainly include steel chisels, hammers, paint stirrers and filters.

Steel chisels are mainly used for opening paint buckets, such as commonly used iron red phenolic antirust paint, primers and surfacers of various paints, etc., all of which contain more extender pigments. The pigments of these paints are easy to precipitate during storage. If the barrel cover (upper top) is not completely removed during use, it is difficult to remove the paint from the hole of the small cover (referring to the 15-20 kg iron packaging barrel). The material is effectively stirred evenly, so it is necessary to uncover the iron sheet on the top of the barrel to facilitate effective stirring. When opening the barrel, use a steel chisel and a hammer to follow the round edge of the barrel lid, knock off or uncover most of the top lid in turn, and then stir with a paint stirring stick. In addition, for packaging thinner, paint, varnish, etc. in various iron drums, steel bars or thick iron nails should be used, and a small hole should be punched in the symmetrical part of the drum cover (small sealing cover) as a hole when pouring. Return to the air hole, otherwise the jet flow will be unstable (one by one) when pouring the material, which will easily cause waste.

2. Seasoning equipment

The seasoning instruments commonly used in automobile coating mainly include viscometer and stopwatch (sports stopwatch).

The viscometer is a No. 4 cup viscometer, namely Tu-4 Viscometer, also known as Tu-4 Viscosity Cup. It is mainly used to test the viscosity of various paints (thin and thick), so that the viscosity can reach the construction viscosity that is convenient for spraying or brushing.

There are two types of Tu-4 viscometers: desktop and portable (Figure 1-4-13). The desktop viscometer is suitable for testing the viscosity of paint in the laboratory. The portable viscometer is small in size, light in weight, and easy to carry, which is convenient for testing the viscosity of paint before construction on site.

The capacity cup of Tu-4 viscometer is made of copper, stainless steel, aluminum, plastic and so on. The standard capacity of Tu-4 cups is 100 ml, and there is a standard small round hole at the bottom of the cup. To use a desktop viscometer, you can first level the four bolts on the lower part of the viscometer table and place it on the workbench, or place it on the workbench before leveling, and place a 250ml glass beaker (or other container), used as a paint pick-up during testing. After these tasks are completed, use the index finger or middle finger of the left hand to block the round hole under the Viscosity Cup, and then add the prepared paint into the Viscosity Cup. After the paint is full, scrape the surface, release the left hand and start with the right hand at the same time Use a stopwatch to make the paint flow into the beaker. When the paint stops flowing, stop the stopwatch immediately. The data on the watch is the viscosity of the paint in "seconds", and the unit of viscosity "seconds" is expressed in "s".

The use of the portable viscometer is relatively simple, that is, after the paint is adjusted on the construction site, the viscometer is directly immersed in the paint to fill it up, then the viscometer is lifted, and the stopwatch is started immediately when the Viscosity Cup leaves the liquid surface, and the paint flows out. Just turn off the stopwatch when the flow is cut off (Figure 1-4-14), and the data on the recording table is the viscosity of the paint in "seconds".
