UK Elcometer 3092 Score Hardness Tester

The Elcometer 3092 determines coating hardness by moving a tungsten carbide nib over the coating with a predetermined force.

The main body of the instrument consists of an indicator slider, which is held in place by a screw lock, with a rounded tip at the front end, pressed by a spring, which has the following 4 types of springs, corresponding to 4 scale ranges:

• Grey Spring: 0-3N (0.671lbF)

• Red Spring: 0-10N (2.248lbF)

• Blue Spring: 0-20N (4.49lbF)

• Green Spring: 0-30N (6.74lbF)

The spring force can be controlled by the slider, and the spring compression increases the force of the pen tip on the surface of the test sheet. Draw short, straight scratches with a hardness pen, gradually increasing the pressure, and the user can observe the force when the tip of the pen makes a mark or breaks the coating. 

Each Elcometer 3092 comes with a pouch containing a 0.75mm (0.03") diameter tungsten carbide nib and 3 springs (grey, red and blue). Green springs 0 - 30N are also available as an option.
