Introduction

A comb gauge is a flat plate of corrosion-resistant stainless steel with a series of teeth lining its edges. The datum teeth at the corners of the plate form a baseline along which the internal teeth and datum teeth form a progressive series of gaps. Each internal tooth is marked with a given gap depth value.

When using a wet film thickness gage, first place the gage tip lightly on the wet paint surface, making sure that the paint fully contacts the scale line side of the gage tip. Then, read the position of the scale line in contact with the paint on the dial to get the thickness value of the wet paint.
