Introduction

The paper air permeability meter is a special device used to measure the air permeability of paper or cardboard. It is used to evaluate the degree to which a paper material impedes the flow of gases, i.e., its air permeability. This instrument usually follows the international standard ISO 5636 or TAPPI T 460 to ensure the accuracy and comparability of test results.

The paper air permeability meter works by creating a gas pressure difference that moves gas through the paper or cardboard sample to be tested. The sample is sandwiched between two gas chambers, with a fixed gas flow rate in one chamber and a measured gas flow rate in the other chamber. By measuring the volume of gas passing through the sample per unit time, the air permeability of the paper can be calculated.
