Introduction

Phosphorus exists in the form of phosphate in water, which comes from biological transformation and industrial wastewater. Phosphates are widely used in agriculture as fertilizers and are often used as cleaning agents to prevent corrosion in industrial boilers. HI706 Phosphorus HR Colorimeter is an instrument used to measure high concentrations of phosphate (usually phosphate ions, PO4^3-) in water samples, where "HR" stands for "High Sensitivity" (High Range). Such instruments are commonly used in wastewater treatment, environmental monitoring, and agriculture. The HI706 Phosphorus HR Colorimeter is based on the chemical reaction between phosphate and a certain reagent, producing a stain or precipitate whose concentration is proportional to the phosphate content in the water sample. The concentration of phosphate in a water sample is determined by measuring the optical density, or color, of the stain.
