      Ford Cup Principle

      The Ford Cup was originally designed for rapid viscosity and consistency assessment of products that conform to or are close to Newtonian mechanical properties, providing a high degree of accuracy and repeatability based on production quality. According to its earlier form, although somewhat simple in design, today's Ford cups, produced according to a number of international standards, which have been developed over the years, prescribe not only the precise dimensional tolerances required in the process, but also the recording of their use and the data obtained. Based on our established experience in the manufacture of these types of products, the Ford Cup manufactured by Xinying is able to provide outstanding test quality. These Ford cups, produced from selected high-grade materials, use the latest computerized machining technology and are produced under strict quality control conditions.       In order to guarantee the best accuracy of your test results, it is highly recommended to calibrate your Ford Cup regularly, either through our own calibration department or with our standardized calibration oils.

      Standard application

      Viscosity is determined by conditional viscosity. It is the time for a certain amount of sample to flow out of a hole of a specified diameter at a certain temperature, expressed in seconds (S). The outflow time can be converted to the kinematic viscosity value in centimeters (mm2/s)

           t=0.053V+1.0  

      or t<23S, t=0.154V+11

           When 23S≤ t<150S, t=0.223V+6.0

      Calibration: Firstly, the correction coefficient K of each viscometer is verified, which is defined as the ratio of the standard outflow time T of the calibrated viscometer to the measured outflow time t under the same conditions, which is the correction coefficient K, K=T/t.

      How to use:

      For more information, please refer to the relevant international standards: ASTM, BS, DIN, EN ISO 

        1) Select the appropriate Viscosity Cup (please check the outflow time) 

        2) Ensure that the Viscosity Cup and test fluid are at the desired experimental temperature. 

        3) Make sure that there are no bubbles and debris in the fluid. 

        4) Seal the outflow hole (you can use your hands), fill it with fluid, scrape the excess test solution into the groove on the edge of the viscometer, and place the receiving cup. 

        5) Release your hand from the outflow hole and start the timer, ending the meter when the first break point occurs in the fluid 

      Time. The calculated time is the viscosity time corresponding to the test fluid (representing its conditional viscosity in seconds). 

        6) Fixed flow test method: The procedure is similar to Article 5, but the stop timer should be when 50ml of fluid is flowing.

      Precautions for use

      Before testing, the Viscosity Cup needs to be cleaned with gauze dipped in solvent and dried and air-dried. Keep it clean

      When there is no requirement for the sample temperature, it is generally 23±1°C or 25±1°C

      The test value cannot be greater than 3% of the average
