The ASTM D4414-1995 (2013) standard specifies procedures for the measurement of wet film thickness of organic coatings using a score gauge (also known as a step gauge or comb gauge). There are two procedures: Procedure A is suitable for the measurement of wet film thickness from 3 to 2000 microns, which is suitable for flat and complex shape substrates; Procedure B is suitable for the measurement of wet film thickness from 25 to 2500 microns, which is also suitable for various substrates and shapes. Although this method is not precise, it is important for controlling the coating dry-film thickness and ensuring the coating mass.
