"HJ 596.2-2010 Water Quality Vocabulary Part II" aims to protect the environment and human health by standardizing water quality terminology and implementing the "Environment Protection Law of the People's Republic of China" and "Water Pollution Prevention and Control Law of the People's Republic of China". This standard is revised from "Water Quality Vocabulary Parts I and II" and "Water Quality Vocabulary Parts III to VII" published in 1986 and 1989. This part of the terms and their definitions are designed to describe the characteristics of water quality, including detailed terms and their English counterparts. During the revision process, reference was made to the international standard "ISO 6107.2-2006 Water Quality Vocabulary Part 2". As of March 1, 2011, "GB 6816-86" and "GB 11915-89" will no longer apply and will be replaced by this standard. The standard was jointly drafted by the China environment monitoring station and the Liaoning provincial environment monitoring experimental center, and was approved and issued by the Ministry of environment protection on November 5, 2010.
