IEC 62928 is an international standard for on-board lithium-ion traction batteries in railway applications. It specifies the design, operating parameters, safety requirements, data exchange, factory inspection and type inspection. The standard applies to traction power energy storage systems (ESS) for railway trasitting rolling stock, excluding lithium-ion batteries in auxiliary power supplies. It covers the electrical, mechanical and safety performance requirements of battery systems, as well as corresponding test methods.
