The ISO 15754:2009 standard specifies a method for measuring the Z-direction tensile strength of paper and Cardboard, which applies to paper and Cardboard other than corrugated fibreboard. The method involves pasting the specimen between two metal plates with double-sided tape, applying pressure and performing a tensile test. The maximum tensile force is recorded to evaluate the Z-direction tensile strength. The Z-direction tensile strength reflects the fiber binding strength of paper or Cardboard in the thickness direction and is an important indicator for evaluating the gluing performance between paper layers. The standard does not apply to papers quantified less than 60 g/m ² because the tape may affect its results.
