The TAPPI T 480 standard specifies a method for the determination of paper and Cardboard specular gloss at 75 degree angle conditions. The method is mainly applicable to Spreader paper, but can also be used on a variety of non-Spreader papers. It is suitable for papers with low to high Glossiness. For very high Glossiness papers, such as cast coated paper, varnishing paper, heavy varnishing or wax coated paper, and inks films with high Glossiness, the TAPPI T 653 standard (determination of paper and Cardboard specular gloss at 20 degree conditions) is recommended for testing. It is important to note that the TAPPI T 480 standard does not apply to the measurement of image reflection mass.
