The ISO 9227-2006 standard defines a procedure for salt spray testing to evaluate the corrosion resistance performance of coatings and metal materials in an artificial corrosion environment. The standard covers three test methods: neutral salt spray (NSS), acetate spray (AASS) and copper accelerated acetate spray (CASS) for different types of coatings and metal materials. The test is designed to detect the discontinuities of coatings and their resistance to corrosion, but the results should be analyzed in comparison with the corrosion environment of the actual use conditions. ISO 9227 provides an important basis for the long-term corrosion resistance assessment of coating systems and materials.
