ISO 2409-2020 "Paints and varnishes - cross-cut test" is a test method used to evaluate the resistance to separation between paints and varnishes and substrates after a right-angle lattice is cut. This standard applies to a wide range of substrates, including metals, wood and plasters, and can be used for field or laboratory testing. Test results can be used not only as a basis for pass/fail determination, but also for a six-step classification system. The updated version of the standard adds updates to test panel coatings and normative reference documents, ensuring the accuracy and applicability of test methods. This document was jointly developed by ISO/TC 35 (paints and varnish) and CEN/TC 139 (paints and varnish), in accordance with the Technical Cooperation Agreement between ISO and CEN. The scope of ISO 2409-2020 describes in detail the application conditions and limitations of the test and is intended to assess adhesion between the coating and the substrate, but is not a means of measuring adhesion. For adhesion measurement, refer to ISO 4624.
