This specification describes a standard procedure for the development of preventative labelling for art materials, designed to provide warnings and precautionary statements for chronic health hazards. The practice applies to art materials Encasement used by all ages and requires labels to contain information such as signal words, a list of potential chronic hazards, instructions for safe handling, etc. The standard does not include testing methods to determine whether a substance presents a chronic health hazard, nor does it apply to products for which labelling regulations already exist. The responsibility for the development of labels rests with the manufacturer or re-Encasement to ensure the safety and transparency of the material in use.
