This standard provides a test method for evaluating hydrogen embrittlement in metallic coatings, external threaded products and fasteners. Hydrogen embrittlement can cause a sharp drop in material strength, which can lead to sudden failure. This method detects the risk of hydrogen embrittlement of coatings by statistical sampling and is applicable to steel products with Hardness ≥ 1 quadrillion Pa. Tests can be used for batch acceptance or rejection and to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment steps, but do not completely eliminate the risk of hydrogen embrittlement.
