The ASTM B489-85 (2023) standard describes a test method for determining the ductility of electrodeposited and autocatalytic deposited metallic coatings. This method is suitable for coatings on sheet or strip base metals and is designed to evaluate the resistance of coatings to cracking during deformation. Ductility testing is an important link in process control, particularly in decorative and engineering applications. The standard does not cover cases where the coating is too ductile or the mandrel is too small. The E8 method is recommended for supplementation.
