The ASTM D6944-15 (2020) standard specifies a method for evaluating the thermal stress resistance of curing coatings through thermal cycling testing. The standard provides two test protocols: Method A and Method B. Method A contains three stages of freezing, thawing and soaking, while Method B omits the soaking stage. The test is designed to simulate the thermal cycling conditions that coatings are subjected to in actual use in order to evaluate their adhesion to thermal stress. This test needs to be used in conjunction with the Miscellaneous coating performance test to comprehensively evaluate the long-term performance of coatings. The main factors involved in the test include film thickness and curing time.
