This standard describes methods used to evaluate the durability of building sealants under accelerated weathering conditions. By simulating the performance of sealants in accelerated weathering and periodic motion, tests can make predictions about the durability of sealants in practical applications. However, such accelerated testing cannot fully simulate actual conditions of use, and test results need to be compared with control materials with known performance. Test methods should take into account the effect of operating conditions on results and provide a detailed report of operating conditions. Due to the different reactions of different materials to acceleration factors, laboratory results cannot be used directly to predict the absolute rate of deterioration under natural efflorescence.
