      The ASTM F1416-96 (2019) standard provides guidance on the selection of Time-Temperature Indicators (TTI) for Encasement of perishable products such as food and pharmaceuticals. TTI is used to record the time and temperature of exposure of a product during transportation and storage to assess its actual shelf life. When the characteristics of the TTI are matched to the mass characteristics of the product, it is possible to more accurately reflect the actual condition of the product. This guidance also recommends the integration of TTI into the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) program as a tool for monitoring product mass and prompts the user to consider the temperature and time requirements of the product when selecting the indicator.
