This specification specifies material and manufacturing requirements for slotted steel or aluminium crates for the transport of light aircraft fuselage components and heavy loads. The standard covers slotted metal crates for new, repeatability use, for both domestic and international transport. The specification classifies crates into two types: Type I is open and Type II is fully enclosed or parceled. Depending on the storage environment, they are classified into Category 1 (external or indeterminate storage) and Category 2 (internal or protected storage). In addition, Style A is not equipped with anti-skid bars, while Style B is equipped with anti-skid blocks and forklift handling devices. Although the standard provides requirements for different performance types, categories and styles, it does not cover performance in all environments. Appropriate construction methods and materials should comply with the standard to ensure that the performance of the Encasement system meets the requirements.
