This standard specifies a test method for testing the leakage performance of empty rigid containers using the vacuum method. This method is suitable for detecting the sealing of containers in air transport, enabling pressure testing of them without altering the lid or body of the container. The test determines the starting point of leakage and is suitable for the evaluation of the leakage resistance of containers under conditions of pressure difference (approximately 95 kPa or 13.8 psi). This method may not be suitable for certain forms of Encasement, such as Encasement with paper lid sealing, because the test solution may cause Encasement to deteriorate rapidly. The standard is suitable for meeting the requirements of the United Nations Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods and ICAO Technical Regulations to help ensure the safety of container sealing during transport.
