This standard provides a test method for evaluating the environmental stress cracking of plastic injection molded open drums, lids and assemblies. The test method is divided into two procedures: Procedure A is used for quality control, providing strictly defined test conditions to reduce variability; Procedure B allows the user to select test conditions to evaluate the impact of extreme cases on container performance. Tests reveal stress crazing of containers in contact with media such as soap, surfactants, etc., helping to optimize designs and predict performance under environmental stresses. This standard is not used to predict time to failure or field performance, but rather as a pass/fail procedure to verify that containers meet user requirements.
