This standard specifies methods for evaluating the functional properties of coating substrates by measurement of coating weight, including sealing, disbonding and Appearance, among others. Methods involve subjective assessment by the operator of effective removal of coatings and require the operator to have appropriate training to ensure conformity. Applicable to substrates for which coatings are soluble in the selected solvent, such as films, paper and non-woven fabrics. Coating amounts are expressed in weight per unit area (e.g. g/m ² or lb/ft ²). Acceptability criteria are not covered in the standard, which need to be determined jointly by the user and the manufacturer. Test results are presented in SI units or in inch-pound units, and values for each system should be used independently.
