The ASTM D3953-15 (2022) standard specification specifies flat steel binding and sealing for closure, reinforcement, binding, and support of transportation items. The standard applies to binding and sealing parts made of cold-rolled carbon steel, covering different types (e.g. Type 1, Type II) and finishes (e.g. Class A, B, C, D) binding materials, as well as different grades (R, H) and styles (I to V) sealing parts. Binding and sealing parts must meet strict Physical Mechanical Property requirements, including breaking strength, elongation, sealing joint strength, lubrication performance, welding efficiency, etc. The standard also sets out detailed requirements for coil configurations, Encasement, and sampling. This specification does not apply to specialty strapping or alloyed metal products and is in inch-pounds. International units are for reference only.
