The ASTM D5112-22 standard test method is used to evaluate the vibration Response of a product under horizontal linear motion to determine its Resonance Frequency. This test helps Encasement designers understand the dynamic stress of the product in the shipping environment and optimize the Encasement system to provide adequate protection. The standard includes two test methods: sinusoidal vibration resonance search and random vibration resonance search. The test results are useful in designing protective measures to reduce vibration damage at Resonance Frequency and to evaluate the fatigue characteristics of the product. If the test requires the design of an excessively costly Encasement, modifications to the product may be necessary. The standard uses SI units and does not cover all safety issues.
