The ASTM D1499-2013 standard provides an exposure method for testing plastic materials in an filtrated open fire carbon arc installation. This method is used to assess the deterioration of electrical, mechanical and Optical Properties of plastics under the action of light, heat and water. The standard covers sample preparation, test conditions and evaluation of results, but does not include test methods for closed carbon arc exposure. This procedure is the same as ISO 4892-4 technical content and emphasizes safety and health practices to be noted during operation. Test results should be evaluated against well documented operating conditions.
