The ASTM D5208-2022 standard specifies specific procedures for evaluating the effects of light, heat, and water on the performance of photodegradable plastics when exposed to Fluorescent Ultraviolet. This practice is designed to simulate changes in the performance of plastics as waste under natural conditions, including the effects of sunlight, moisture, and heat, but excluding the role of atmospheric pollution and biological factors. The conformity of the test results is improved by comparing materials with known performance. This method also highlights the impact of laboratory environment and equipment conditions on the results, and recommends repeability testing for each material to obtain reliable data.
