The ISO 11130:2017 standard specifies a method for evaluating the corrosion resistance of metals and alloys in salt solutions. This alternative immersion test simulates the corrosion behavior of metals under various environment conditions by alternating immersions in salt solutions. The test is applicable to aluminium alloys, ferrous metals and their coatings and is of particular importance in metal fabrication quality control and alloy development. The test results can be used to assess the relative corrosion resistance of different metals under similar environment conditions, but are not applicable to a comprehensive assessment of all actual service environments. The method can also be used for corrosion testing under applied stress conditions.
