The ISO 11997-3:2020 standard specifies a method for testing automotive structural materials and component coating systems for resistance to the Cyclic Corrosion environment. The standard uses the Cyclic Corrosion test to create a corrosion pattern in the actual use environment by simulating corrosion conditions such as temperature, Humidity and salt fog. The test is designed to assess the protection of the coating system against corrosion, including coating delamination, corrosion creeping and corrosion of surfaces and edges. This method is particularly suitable for coating systems for materials such as aluminium, steel or galvanised steel, but can also be extended to the evaluation of coatings for Miscellaneous metals and their alloys.
