This standard provides an overview of the facilities used by domestic automakers to accelerate corrosion aging of complete vehicles, including the type of vehicle tested, methods and correlation of test results with actual conditions of use. Different test procedures have different effects on the corrosion results of vehicle coatings and components. Successful interpretation of these test results requires an in-depth understanding of corrosion mechanisms and test limitations. The report provides an overview of procedures and facilities at some U.S. test sites and emphasizes the scientific interpretation of accelerated corrosion test results. Due to limitations of test procedures, results need to be interpreted with caution.
