This method assesses the corrosion rate of materials in acidic or alkaline solutions and investigates their passivating ability after activation by conducting short-term laboratory specimen immersion tests under controlled conditions. The standard is suitable for predicting how materials will behave in a specific chemical environment, assisting in material selection and life estimation. This standard does not apply to high corrosion rates or solutions containing halides.
