This standard is part of the ISO 3856 series and describes a flameless atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) method for the determination of mercury in the pigment portion and the liquid portion of water-diluted Paints. Coatings with "soluble" mercury content in the range of about 0.005% to 0.05% (m/m). The standard states that the method is suitable for water-diluted Coatings and requires that it be performed by properly trained personnel to ensure safe operation and accurate results.
