This standard specifies a flame atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) method for the determination of total lead content in paints and related products. This method is suitable for products with lead content in the range of 0.01% to 2% (m/m) and provides a dry ash treatment method as a referee method. This method is suitable for samples with various lead content, but accuracy may be limited. The standard also includes the alternate dithiazole Spectrophotometric method, spectrophotometry as an alternative method of determination, and provides the required reference materials.
