This standard describes a flame atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) method for the determination of total mercury in paints and related products. This method is suitable for samples with a total mercury content in the range of 0.01% to 0.5% (m/m) and can be adjusted to accommodate higher concentrations of products. Reference materials and equipment requirements for experiments are provided in the standard, and the need for experienced personnel to ensure the accuracy of test results is emphasized.
