ISO 15181-1:2007 specifies methods for the determination of the release rate of biotoxicants in Paints and varnish anti-fouling paints, in particular the general method for the extraction of biotoxicants. The standard uses standardized artificial seawater conditions to determine the release rate of biotoxicants in anti-fouling paints, mainly for laboratory mass assurance and material selection. The standard emphasizes that this method is not suitable for direct estimation of the release rate of biotoxicants in the actual environment, but should take into account the differences between the actual conditions of use and the results of laboratory tests. ISO 15181-1 is part 1 of the ISO 15181 series of standards for the extraction and determination of biotoxicides in anti-fouling paints.
