GB/T 16488-1996 is a water quality testing standard, which uses infrared spectrophotometry to determine petroleum and animal and vegetable oils. Petroleum and animal and vegetable oils enter water bodies, which will damage water ecology and affect water quality. The standard specifies that water samples are collected and separated by extraction, and the Absorbance at specific wavelengths is measured by Infrared spectrophotometer, so as to quantitatively analyze the content of petroleum and animal and vegetable oils. There are detailed regulations on the selection of extractant, instrument operation, calibration method and result calculation. The method is accurate and reliable, and is suitable for all kinds of oil-contaminated water samples. It provides key detection technology for water quality monitoring, water pollution prevention and control, and protects the water ecological environment.
