This standard specifies a method for the determination of iron content in copper concentrates using the potassium dichromate Titrimetric method, which is suitable for the range of iron content from 8.00% to 40.00%. Samples are first dissolved with muriatic acid, nitric acid and sulfuric acid. Ammonia and ammonium chloride are used to settle iron to separate the copper in the matrix. Then in muriatic acid medium, most of the iron is reduced by stannous chloride and the remaining iron is reduced using sodium tungstate and titanium trichloride. Finally, mixed thiophosphorus acid and sodium dianiline sulfonate are added as indicators and titration is carried out with potassium dichromate standard solution. This method ensures accurate determination of iron content in copper concentrates.
