This standard specifies the ferrous sulfate ammonium Titrimetric method for the determination of total chromium in solid waste leaching solutions. This method is suitable for the determination of total chromium in solid waste, as well as in water and wastewater, with a lower limit of quantification of 1 mg/L. During the test, trivalent chromium is first oxidized to hexavalent chromium in an acidic solution using a silver salt catalyst and ammonium persulfate, and excess oxidation agent is removed. Subsequently, hexavalent chromium is titrated with ferrous sulfate ammonium using phenylo-anthranilic acid as an indicator. Excess ferrous sulfate ammonium reacts with the indicator and ends in bright green. This method can accurately determine the total chromium content in solid waste leaching solutions.
