The ISO 2361-1982 standard "measurement of the thickness of nickel platings on magnetic and nonmagnetic substrates" describes a method for nondestructive measurement of the thickness of nickel platings using magnetic thickness gauges. The standard applies to the thickness measurement of nickel platings on magnetic and nonmagnetic substrates, but not catalytic nickel platings. Measurement principles are based on magnetic thickness gauges reflecting platings thickness through changes in magnetic attractive force or magnetoresistance. Measurement accuracy factors such as platings thickness, matrix metal magnetic and curvature are described in detail, and instrument calibrating, measurement procedures and precautions are provided to ensure the accuracy of measurement results.
