This standard provides general guidelines for thermal spray preparation of metal, cermet, oxide ceramic and plastic coatings on metal and Non-metallic substrates. It covers appropriate thermal spray equipment, formal operation, monitoring and mass assurance requirements, and makes recommendations for nondestructive or destructive testing of specimens or workpieces. In addition, the standard describes possible problems during thermal spraying and how to avoid them. It is suitable for a variety of conventional thermal spray applications, but does not involve coating load and mass rating evaluation, which vary by application condition.
