This document describes a Dumas combustion method for the determination of total nitrogen content in fertilizers. It is suitable for the determination of total nitrogen content in fertilizer samples, but not for the determination of total nitrogen in ammonium hydrogen carbonic acid. The method is used in an oxygen-enriched environment. After the sample is heated and burned in a combustion tube, it is converted to NO, and then the interfering components are removed by an absorbent. Finally, it is converted to molecular nitrogen and detected by Thermal conductivity detector, TCD, to obtain the total nitrogen content of the sample.
