This standard specifies a method for the determination of carbon content by weighting method after combustion in a tube furnace, which is applicable to the determination of 0.10% to 5.00% carbon content in iron, steel, superalloys and precision alloys. The sample and flux are oxidized into carbon dioxide by oxygen combustion in a high temperature tube furnace, and then the carbon dioxide is absorbed in a alkali asbestos absorption bottle. The carbon content in the sample is calculated by weighing the increment of the absorption bottle. Reagents and materials include oxygen, solvent, perchloric acid mg, flux tin particles, etc.
