eXact Basic Density Meter: If you print CMYK and just need to measure density and check tonal value increase (dot gain/dot area), eXact Basic is excellent for you. This entry-level handheld density meter automatically detects color and patch type and provides fast, clear density and hue value measurements for solids and shades.
eXact Basic Plus Density Meter: This densitometer model does everything Basic does, plus the ability to measure traps, print characteristic lines and provide trend views. It also allows you to compare standards and samples for pass/fail quality control. Great if you're printing CMYK in a pressroom and need to verify all aspects of density. The eXact Basic Plus is also Bluetooth capable, which removes excess wires from the print chamber.
Exact Standard Spectrophotometer: The exact standard is a sophisticated tool for press operators who want to ensure the accuracy of both CMYK and spot colors. eXact Advanced Spectrophotometer: The eXact Advanced is an excellent choice for ink and quality control labs, ensuring color verification of CMYK and spot inks and measuring four M-modes simultaneously. It does everything the eXact standard does and offers enhanced colorimetric capabilities to evaluate inks and papers before, during and after print production.
exact XP: The exact XP is the solution to the unique challenges of measuring flexible thin films. All eXact models are available in XP.
eXact Auto-Scan: X-Rite also recently released eXact Auto-Scan, in addition to measuring in spot and manual modes. The eXact Auto-Scan track with InkKeyControl software transforms the eXact handheld into a versatile scanning solution, reducing off-the-shelf costs such as paper and ink. Are you printing CMYK and only measuring density?
The entry-level base model is an excellent choice for you. The Basic Plus model is required if the measured data is compared to a standard for pass/fail indication.
Do you measure spot colors?
The base model only measures density, so you should consider eXact Standard or eXact Advanced.
Are you printing to a standard like G7, PSO, or Japan Color?
You will need the complex eXact Standard or eXact Advanced.
Do you measure flexible films?
The XP model is available for eXact Basic, Basic Plus, Standard and Advanced models and adds the ability to measure flexible thin films.
Are you using M3 (polarizing filter)?
Depending on your other needs, either eXact Standard or Advanced will work, but the XP model isn't for you.
Are you a color scientist or quality assurance professional?
Evaluating quality assurance and checking metamerism, paper indexes and special values requires the powerful model eXact Advanced.
Do you measure cylindrical items?
The cup and cylinder fixtures work with the exact family to capture accurate and consistent color readings on cup and cylindrical samples. It includes a sample positioning arm to hold the sample at the correct height and angle, and a table to hold the equipment.
Are you looking to upgrade in a year or two?
All eXact models can be password upgraded from Basic to Basic Plus and from Standard to Advanced. Although you can also switch between eXact and eXact Xp, the device needs to be sent for hardware changes.
Do you use color management software?
When you combine X-Rite eXact with formulation and quality control software, you can verify and manage specified colors on a variety of printing technologies and substrates.
