Does the Spectrophotometer 's environment interfere with the measurement?

While unsatisfactory, you can probably get work done on three hours of sleep. But for most of us, those three hours of shut-eye won't make for a productive day at work.

The same is true for Spectrophotometer s and environmental conditions. If you put a color measurement device into any room and set it up according to the required specifications, you will get a machine that is functional and reliable. These specifications include:

  • 110 to 230/240 VAC

  • ±6% noise

  • no nails

  • Stable "PC-grade" mains power

However, the measurements you get may not be as accurate as they are. They may differ from measurements made by Spectrophotometer s in other rooms or other locations.

That's where the environmental norms come in. When considering whether a Spectrophotometer actually offers everything you expect, it is important to consider:

Temperature: Keep the Spectrophotometer at a stable room temperature between 21 and 25℃ ? If your room temperature varied by even four degrees, measuring the same sample on the same instrument could result in 0.4 dE, which is 1.75 times the change in dE your instrument is capable of.

Exposure to sunlight: Is the device kept out of direct sunlight? Even in a temperature-controlled room, sunlight can heat the instrument and cause inaccurate measurements. Make sure the Spectrophotometer is away from any windows.

Humidity: Is the humidity in the room between 20% and 85% (non-condensing)? This also affects the color of the sample.

Pollutants: Is the air polluted by chemical vapors during use? Both of these methods can greatly reduce the useful life of the sphere and gradually reduce the long-term accuracy of the instrument. Keep the Spectrophotometer free of any contamination that will shorten the life of the sphere.

If you set up your Spectrophotometer following all of the above technical and environmental specifications, your equipment will give you more accurate measurements and a longer life.
