The new UTG-1500 handheld ultrasonic Thickness Gauge uses microprocessor technology to measure the thickness of metallic and non-metallic materials, such as aluminum, titanium, plastics, ceramics, glass, and other good conductors of ultrasonics, provided that the upper and lower surfaces of the workpiece under test are parallel. The UTG-1500 is used for a wide range of applications, providing accurate thickness measurements on a wide range of raw materials, components and assembly machines, as well as inspecting all types of pipes and pressure capacitors due to corrosion or wear due to thickness loss.

The UTG-1500 is easy to operate and can accurately display readings in metric or imperial systems with a simple calibration of known thickness or sound velocity.
Ultrasonic wall thickness measurement
The use of ultrasonic non-destructive measurement technology to detect the thickness of materials has been widely used in various fields of modern industry. The thickness of the material can be measured without touching the upper and lower surfaces of the workpiece, making it possible to measure the thickness of a wide range of materials, and with an accuracy of 0.01mm, it is easy to measure metals, plastics, ceramics, glass, and other materials.
Ultrasonic Thickness Gauges measure the thickness of a component by measuring the time it takes for sound waves to pass through the sensor to the bottom of the part, then measure the time to return to the sensor, and calculate the thickness value based on the sound velocity of the sound waves in the material being measured.
A variety of piezoelectric sensors, operating at specific frequencies, are used to generate sound waves. Typically, 5 MHz is the standard frequency for all Festto ultrasonic Thickness Gauges. Optional sensors are also available for a wide range of measurements.
The pulse/echo direct contact method of ultrasonic Thickness Gauges requires the use of a couplant, typically propylene glycol, but many other substances can be substituted.
For ease of setup and use, many of today's instruments have the ability to store, output to a printer or computer, and carry it handheld. In addition, simple instrument drive menus combined with data storage capabilities allow professional technicians/operators to obtain accurate and efficient measurement data when measuring a wide range of thickness values.
