A steel indenter of a certain shape is vertically pressed into the surface of the sample under the action of the test force. When the surface of the presser foot is completely attached to the surface of the sample, the tip of the indenter has a certain protruding length L relative to the plane of the presser foot. The measured hardness is represented by the L value, the larger the L value, the lower the hardness, otherwise the higher the hardness. The principle is as follows:
