HANNAIntroduction
HI83749 wine turbidity and silica bentonite meter is specially designed for measuring wine turbidity. This Turbidity Meter is based on a reliable optical system that ensures accurate results, ensures long-term stability, and reduces stray light and color interference to low levels. Changes in lamp intensity are also compensated for. The 25mm round reaction cup composed of special optical glass ensures the repeatability of turbidity measurements. Ensures the stability of protein before bottling high-quality wines. Measures turbidity of samples in the range 0.00 to 1200 NTU, compliant with USEPA standards.
Preventing protein haze or precipitation in bottled white wines is a common concern and wines often need to be stabilized before bottling. One commonly used stabilizer is bentonite clay. Bentonite is a volcanic clay-type fining agent (such as kaolin) that can be used as a wine stabilizer. It improves the clarity of wine, but it also has negative effects because of the formation of lees, the reduction of tannins and color. Because different types and qualities of bentonite clay have different protein removal capabilities, it is important to conduct laboratory experiments using bentonite clays from the same batch and moisture level.
Winemakers can use the H183749 Turbidity Meter to determine the initial turbidity of unrefined wine. After taking the turbidity reading, add the previously prepared H183749-20 Bentocheck solution to the wine sample. Take a second turbidity measurement. A wine is considered stable if the second turbidity reading is less than the initial turbidity reading plus 2 NTU. Otherwise, a fining test can be performed to determine the amount of bentonite that must be added to stabilize the wine.
