How the heavy-duty impact Tester works

Heavy duty impact Testers have a wide range for impact testing. It is suitable for many types of coatings, such as coatings, varnishes, water-based wood coatings, high-viscosity plastic coatings and laminated coatings. It can also be used for quality management standards for impact resistance tests and penetration tests in construction, such as plastics, resins, fiberglass, plates, plywood, etc. The test method complies with standards such as ISO6272, ASTM D2794, D3029, D4226, and waterborne wood coatings for the chemical industry. There are two types of tests: pass/fail test (i.e., testing with a specified weight and a drop height to see if the test results meet specific specifications) and grading test (i.e., determining the minimum mass and drop height when a coating cracks or peels off the substrate by gradually increasing the weight height and/or mass).

Structure and specifications of heavy-duty impact Tester

structureThe heavy-duty impact Tester is mainly composed of a catheter, a height limit ring, and a base. There are two types of graduations on the catheter, centimeters and inches, corresponding to ISO and ASTM standards, respectively.

        Experiments with heavy impact Testers

        (1) Test preparation

        1) Bring your own visual lens with a magnification of 10x.

        2) Place the instrument on a level table or floor.

        3) Select the corresponding punch according to the required criteria and put it in.

        4) Select the corresponding die base according to the selected punch.

        5) Place the catheter in and lock it with the locking handle.

        6) Place the height limit ring from above the catheter and secure it with screws.

        (2) Test steps

        a. Pass/Fail Test:

        1) Adjust the height of the height limit ring so that the scale specified by it is exactly in line with the specified drop weight.

        2) Put the test plate on the mold base, so that the painted side is up or down, so that the indentation can be concave or convex, turn the handwheel to make the hold-down sleeve press the test plate, and loosen the weight hammer to make it fall to the test plate.

        3) Inspect the coating with a lens to see if the coating has cracked or peeled off from the substrate, and whether the substrate has cracked.

        4) Repeat the test four more times at different positions of the test plate (a total of 5 drop points), if at least 4 test points are not cracked or peeled off the substrate, then the coating is qualified.

The above are the pass/fail tests of ordinary coatings.

In the pass/fail test of the chemical industry standard for water-based wood, it is stipulated that a punch with a diameter of 12.7 and a weight weight of 300g is used, and if there is no paint film peeling and cracking in the deformation area of the impact (if necessary, the deformed area can be painted with a colored marker, and the residual color on the surface can be wiped off after a while, and then checked), the impact point is passed. Test two test plates, each board impact 5 points, if at least 3 points on one of the test plates do not fall off and crack, the test item is rated as "passed".

        b. Grading test:

        1) Adjust the height of the height limit ring so that the scale indicated is exactly in line with the specified drop weight height, at which time no damage should be expected.

        2) Put the test plate on the mold base, so that the painted side is up or down, so that the indentation can be concave or convex, turn the handwheel to make the hold-down sleeve press the test plate, and loosen the weight hammer to make it fall to the test plate.

        3) Remove the test plate from the device to observe the cracking of the coating in the impact area, if there are no obvious cracks, then operate at a greater height until cracks are observed, depending on the weight used, 1 kg (2 pounds) depending on the weight used, and the height increments are 25 mm (1 inch) or 25 mm (1 inch) respectively. If cracking is not observed at the maximum height allowed by the weight, repeat with 2 kg (4 lbs).

        4) Once cracking is observed at a certain height, perform the following operation: fall to the test plate 5 times at this height and at a height of 25 mm (1 inch) higher and 25 mm (1 inch) lower than this height, i.e. a total of 15 drops. The test is carried out in any way so that all impacts performed at the same height are not continuous or are tested on only one plate.

        5) Use a lens to check whether the coating is cracked or peeled off from the substrate, and list the 15 results of passing and breaking. The combined mass/height report of the resulting change in most of these failures is taken as the endpoint of impact failure.

        6) If the end point cannot be obtained according to the above operation, then (4), (5) and two steps are carried out again, and all three heights are taken as the applicable values, so as to ensure that the end point of impact damage is replaced by the range of test height.

        Precautions

        1. The test should be carried out under the condition of constant temperature and humidity.

        2. The sampling of the tested sample, the treatment and drying of the test plate should be carried out in accordance with the provisions of the standard.

        3. After all the tests are completed, remove the accessories of the instrument and put them in place to protect the cleanliness of the instrument.
